ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to compare in random manner the intraoperative feasibility, effectiveness and safety of monopolar and bipolar electrosurgery in hysteroscopic polypectomy. 36 Symptomatic patients attending at outpatient clinics and diagnosed to have intrauterine polyps by HSG, transvaginal sonography or Diagnostic hysteroscopy were included. Patients were randomly assigned to two groups to have hysteroscopic polypectomy using either bipolar [Group A] or monopolar [Group B] electrosurgery under general anesthesia. Intraoperatively, the following parameters were noted and recorded: time of start of anesthesia, time of introduction of the resectoscope, time of end of the procedures, time of recovery, amount of fluid used, amount of fluid Collected in the graduated suction, postoperative serum sodium was measured. Sociodemographic data for patients in both groups were comparable. The mean duration of operation was comparable in both group [14.76 +/- 2.95 minutes in bipolar group versus 14.79 +/- 2.94 minutes in monopolar group]. Fluid inflow, fluid outflow and fluid deficit were significantly higher in the monopolar group than in bipolar group. Bipolar electrosurgery seems effective, feasible and safe alternative to conventional monopolar system in hysteroscopic management of intrauterine pathologies

ABSTRACT

The production of cellulase was investigated in shakes culture of a new isolate of Aspergillus niger F-92. Amongst different concentration of cellulose powder tested, concentration 1.5% [w/v] showed maximum production of enzyme after nine days incubation at 30C. The optimum initial pH for enzyme production was found to be 5.0. The production of cellulases was sensitive to nitrogen source in the medium, the optimum production was seen when soybean flour [600 mg N/L] was used as the only nitrogen source. KH2PO4 [0.2% w/v] was found to be optimum at concentration 0.3 M caused marked increase in cellulases and beta-glucosidase production. Under the optimum culture conditions the activities of FPase, CMCase and beta-glucosidase were 1.89, 4.2 and 7.82 IU/ml, respectively

ABSTRACT

Intact 5 day cycling rats were killed between 8-10 a.m. each day of the estrous cycle. Plasma concentration of estradiol, progersteron, FSH and LH were determined by RIA method. Pituitary gland, ovaries and both uterine horn weight were recorded. Estradiol levels were lowest at estrous and rose steadily to peak on the afternoon of proestrous progesteron was high during the first day of diestrous and also showed a large peak on the afternoon of proestrous, at which time both pituitary hormones were elevated [follicle stimulating hormone FSH and luteitising hormone LH]. Organs weight were highest in both proestrous and estrous phases which correlates with the hormonal pattern

ABSTRACT

Medroxy progestrone acetate [Depo Provera] could stop ovulation for at least two month in rats by reducing LH in the anterior pituitary and accordingly plasma LH levels. FSH was not affected except at higher dose equivalent to ten times the human dose. Reduction in LH levels resulted in inhibition of delta 5-3 beta -OL steroid dehydrogenase enzyme activity and consequently in serum progesterone level. Sorum estrogen levels were also reduced. Signs of uterine atrophy during drug action were observed. These effects were found to be reversible with one and double the human contraceptive doses. With ten times the dose, these effects seemed to be irreversible

ABSTRACT

The effects of three long acting steroidal contraceptives on total and fractional urinary l7-oxosteroids were studied in female albino rats. The compounds used were Medroxyprogesterone acetate [MPA], the oral oestrogenic Quinesterol [QNST] and the parentral progestogen-estrogen combination Deladroxate [DDXT]

ABSTRACT

Three anti-sera to ovine prolactin were prepared through immunisation in rabbits. The prepared anti-sera were characterized for their titre and inhibition curves to be used for radioimmunological assay for human prolactin. One of the prepared anti-ovine prolactin [anti-Opr] serum at a dilution of 1/60.000 showed a parallelism to anti-ovine prolactin serum No. 770 at a final dilution of 1/72.000
